Robotics Software Engineer

We are looking for a talented, proactive, and results-oriented software engineer. The candidate will drive the debugging and optimization of existing software as well as the design and implementation of state-of-the-art software for autonomous systems. The successful candidate will design and develop runtime performance-critical code. She/he will dive deep into existing software to: debug critical issues; find performance hotspots; and optimize the code. The candidate will develop high quality software with an emphasis on good interfaces between different software modules.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience developing high quality software
  • Proficient in object oriented design

  • Experience and comfort using the command line in Unix, Linux, and/or OS X.

About The Role

  • Contribute to the design and development of robotic systems, both autonomous and collaborative for a variety of applications
  • Research and suggest components, either existing or new, to be integrated into our robots
  • Drive selection and integration of I/O interface hardware, chipsets, and communication protocols in collaboration with software engineer
  • Assist in the development of and troubleshoot code that interfaces with the robotic components
  • Develop and maintain testing infrastructure for hardware devices

About You

  • Education: BS/MS in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or equivalent
  • 2+ years experience with sensors and actuators (e.g. electric motors, linear actuators, cameras, range sensors, etc.)
  • A strong design aesthetic
  • Proficiency in C++, or proficiency in C and at least one object-oriented language combined with a strong motivation to learn C++
  • Experience with hardware communication protocols (e.g. I2C, SPI, CAN, EtherCAT, Modbus, etc.)
  • Highly-motivated team player with evidence of technical leadership and strong technical collaboration skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Desire to be part of a fast-moving start-up and work in a fast paced, collaborative, environment with few rigid boundaries

  • Mission Planner/Pixhawk experience
  • Ability to travel within United States on short notice
  • Ability to remain outside during all-weather flight operations
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Part 107 remote pilots license.
  • Preferred: Manned Pilots License or Part 107 Drone pilots license
  • Preferred: Military or law enforcement background
